AMC Hires Vish Kalambur as New Chief Information Officer

Association Management Center is excited to announce the hiring of Vish Kalambur as the company’s new Chief Information Officer. Prior to joining AMC, Kalambur served for 12 years as the Senior Director of Application Development at the Healthcare Information Management Systems Society (HIMSS).

Vish KalamburWhile at HIMSS, he managed several application portfolios including ecommerce, integrations, mobile apps & customer/member portals. Previously, he served in management and technical architect roles for several organizations – both in the nonprofit/association and for-profit spaces – since 1998.

According to AMC principal Scott Engle, “We are extremely excited to hire someone with a background as impressive as Vish’s. Based on his track record, he is someone who we know will continue to develop a top-notch infrastructure for our client partners while also helping them achieve their growth objectives in the coming years through a focus on their business goals. Overall, we couldn’t be more pleased with his hire.”

Kalambur is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) from the Project Management Institute, a Motorola-certified Six Sigma Black Belt, a Scrum Alliance Certified Scrum Master, and holds a Microsoft certification in web technology.

He received a bachelor of science from Loyola College at the University of Madras (India) and two Master of Science degrees from IIT Madras (India) and Northern Arizona University. All of these degrees were in mathematics.

He began in his role in early January.

 

Joan Kram Named to Nursing Organizations Alliance Coordinating Team

At the Annual 2015 Fall Summit of the Nursing Organizations Alliance (also known as NOA or The Alliance), Joan Kram, FACHE, CAE was elected to serve on the NOA Coordinating Team for a three year term.

Joan Kram smallThe Coordinating Team manages the property, business and affairs of the alliance, and serves in a similar capacity to an organization’s Board of Directors.

The Alliance was formed in 2001 to provide a forum for identification, education and collaboration building on issues of common interest to advance the nursing profession. Membership in the Alliance is open to any nursing organization whose focus is to address current and emerging nursing and health care issues.

AMC Principal Jeff Engle said, “We’re extremely pleased when our company’s leaders can share their expertise with leading organizations in the association industry. Joan is an excellent example of our leaders doing just that, and we are proud of her for being elected to serve in this role.”

In addition to the American Association of Neuroscience Nurses, Kram’s association, three other nursing organizations managed by Association Management Center are also members of The Alliance. They include the Association of Rehabilitation Nurses, the Association of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Nurses, and the National Association of Neonatal Nurses.

Director of Meetings and Conventions Receives the John C. Thiel Distinguished Service Award

For the 3rd consecutive year, an AMC staff member was honored with the John C. Thiel Distinguished Service Award from the Association Forum of Chicagoland. The award is presented for exceptional, long-term, volunteer service to the Association Forum, primarily through committee service or similar contributions.

Director of Meetings and Conventions, Kay V. Granath, CMP CAE, is the 2015 recipient. She follows AMC account executive Steve Smith who received the award in 2014 and director of marketing and business development, Marilyn Jansen, who was the 2013 recipient.

“Giving back to the association and meetings industries is something that I’ve thoroughly enjoyed throughout my career,” Granath said. “To receive this award is quite humbling, and I look forward to continuing in service to the industry in the years ahead.”

For more than 20 years Granath has advanced the association and meetings professions through dedicated service to the Association Forum. During her career she has served on the Forum’s Board of Directors, as chair of the Honors Gala committee, Annual Meeting committee, and the Meetings Shared Interest Group, and as a member of the Education and Holiday Showcase committees. She has also been a frequent Associations 101 speaker and served as a CAE Facilitator in 2006.

In addition to her Forum work, she served as a board member of Meeting Professionals International (MPI), as president of MPI’s Chicago Area Chapter, and was named Meeting Planner of the Year and to the chapter’s Hall of Fame in 2001. She serves on the customer advisory councils for the Monterey (California) and St. Louis Convention and Visitors Bureaus.

According to AMC principal Jeff Engle, “Our staff is extremely proud of the fact that Kay is receiving the John C. Thiel Award from Association Forum. Her continued hard work and dedication to the association industry are admirable, and we appreciate the vast knowledge and expertise she brings from her years in the industry. She is a great leader and committed volunteer, and we are proud she is being recognized by Forum.”

Granath received her award with 22 AMC staff cheering her on at the Association Forum Honors Gala, which was held Thursday, June 18 at Navy Pier in Chicago.

Three AMC Employees Receive Certification as Association Executives

Three AMC staff members have earned the Certified Association Executive (CAE) designation from the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE).

Senior Account Manager Mary Beth Benner, Account Executive Joan Kram, and Account Manager Emily Muse each achieved the certification during the May exam window.

Mary Beth Benner serves as the senior operations manager for AMC client the Association of Rehabilitation Nurses. She has been with AMC for 14 years.

Joan Kram, MBA BSN has been with AMC for 5 years, and serves as the executive director of the American Association of Neuroscience Nurses, the American Board of Neuroscience Nursing, and the International Transplant Nurses Society.

Emily Muse serves as the manager of communities and programs for the American Academy of Hospice & Palliative Medicine, and has been at AMC for 5 years.

According to AMC principal Jeff Engle, “Earning the CAE is a tremendous accomplishment that takes a great deal of hard work and dedication. We are proud of our three outstanding employees for receiving this certification, and are very excited about their continued great work on behalf of AMC clients.”

To achieve the CAE, applicants must complete 100 hours of broad based professional development training and sit for an exam based on nine knowledge domains that assess a potential candidate’s knowledge in 156 competencies of effectively managing an association.

AMC Named One of the Best Place to Work in Illinois for 2015

For the fourth time since 2010, AMC has been named one of the Best Places to Work in Illinois.

As it was in 2010, 2011, and 2014, AMC has been included in the 2015 list of medium-sized companies (101–499 U.S. employees) named in the statewide awards program, which honors the state’s best employers benefiting Illinois’ economy, workforce, and businesses.

“It’s an honor to earn this recognition,” said AMC Principal Jeff Engle. “We are fortunate to have an incredibly talented and passionate team of employees who effectively serve our association partners. And, just as we have been since our founding in 1974, we are committed to providing an excellent culture so our employees continue to find value in having a career at AMC.”

AMC to Manage the American Academy of Home Care Medicine

The American Academy of Home Care Medicine (AAHCM) has selected AMC to provide full-service management. The management arrangement begins September 1.

Formerly a self-managed association, AAHCM was founded in 1984 as the American Academy of Home Care Physicians, and was renamed in 2014 to better reflect the diversification of its membership base. Since its founding, the Academy has served the needs of thousands of physicians and related professionals and agencies interested in improving care of patients in the home.

According to AMC principal Mark Engle, DM FASAE, “We are incredibly pleased that AAHCM’s Board of Directors has chosen AMC to help move the Academy to the next level. We are confident that our strategic leadership and operational efficiencies will help AAHCM grow, and we’re very much looking forward to partnering with the Board and members to help achieve the Academy’s goals.”

The AAHCM account team will be led by Executive Director Suzanne Simons, MS, who brings significant experience in healthcare and association leadership to the role. She is supported by a group of staff who will provide operational support to the Academy as it works to continue its leadership role in its industry.

AAHCM President Tom Cornwell, MD, said, “We’re pleased to have found a partner in AMC that is interested in investing the effort in helping our industry succeed into the future. I’m convinced that with the evident synergies between our association and other AMC client partners, this relationship will take AAHCM to the next level of success.”

With this new relationship, AAHCM becomes AMC’s 32nd current full-service client partner.
