After a month of meaningful conversations, shared learning, and community-building experiences, we’re wrapping up our second annual IDEA Month at AMC.
Centered on Inclusivity, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility, IDEA Month is designed to give our team space to explore new perspectives, learn from one another, and reflect on the lived experiences that shape our workplace and the broader community.
From timely discussions about food insecurity and global LGBTQ+ rights to interactive activities celebrating resilience, music, and local communities, this year’s program encouraged curiosity and connection in meaningful ways.
Here are a few memorable highlights from this year’s IDEA Month lineup.
Creating Space to Learn and Connect
Exploring Hunger in Our Community: AMC welcomed the Greater Chicago Food Depository for an important conversation about food insecurity in Cook County, the impact of SNAP changes, and ways to help support those in need. The session offered timely insight into a growing challenge and practical ways to get involved.
Celebrating Pride Around the World: We explored the global movement for LGBTQ+ rights and pride in a memorable session led by our LGBTQIA+ ERG (employee resource group) that focused on recent wins and different cultural understandings. The discussion highlighted both progress and the continued importance of visibility and advocacy.
Leveraging Strengths for Inclusive Team Performance: This interactive session invited staff to think about how their CliftonStrengths can support more inclusive and effective teams. We explored practical ways to enhance collaboration, lead with authenticity, and help teams thrive by drawing on our individual strengths and values.
Honoring Juneteenth: In recognition of Juneteenth, we participated in a session developed by our BIPOC ERG on the profound resilience Black Americans have shown in the ongoing fight for freedom, justice, and equality.
Playing the Women You Should Know Crossword: Developed by our Working Women ERG, this interactive activity invited staff to put their knowledge to the test while celebrating memorable women and their lasting impact. Whether participants were history buffs or simply enjoyed a good mental challenge, the crossword offered a fun way to learn something new.
Sharing Favorite Local Eats: We celebrated the diversity of our local communities by sharing favorite restaurants and local eats. The activity encouraged us to discover new flavors while supporting neighborhood businesses.
Enjoying a Black Music Month Playlist: To celebrate Black Music Month, we listened to songs by Black artists from a playlist created by the BIPOC ERG that honored the influence and cultural impact of Black musicians across genres.
Continuing the Conversation
This year’s IDEA Month may have drawn to a close, but the conversations, connections, and learnings it inspired will continue to shape how we work and show up for one another. As we carry these moments forward, we remain committed to building a workplace where everyone feels welcomed, valued, and encouraged to contribute.
