As a panelist for this preconference workshop, Wendy-Jo Toyama joins other association leaders in sharing insights on the important questions to consider before entering the C-suite, including what is needed to compete successfully and how "know thyself" is even more important than knowing about the organization with whom you interview.

August 6: Bad Board Members: You Can’t Make This Stuff Up
As content leader for this session, Mark Engle will lead an interactive session that highlights the common problems that befall even the most well-intentioned boards of directors, helping help those involved in governance properly identify problems, learn how to avoid them, and address them quickly and efficiently.

August 8: AAPI Leadership and Underrepresentation in Association Management—Make a Positive Impact
As a panelist for this session, Wendy-Jo Toyama joins other AAPI leaders in sharing their experiences and insights on supporting AAPI colleagues and board members, including strategies on how to mentor, sponsor, and build a more inclusive team.

About the Speakers

Mark Engle 100Mark Engle, DM, CAE FASAE, is a principal of AMC who specializes in board governance and strategy. A frequent author and speaker on governance, board development, and high performing organizations, Mark regularly develops new research that leads to advancement in the nonprofit management profession. Each year, he works closely with dozens of nonprofit organizations on a variety of governance issues, from single board development presentations to more detailed board and committee restructuring projects.

 

Toyama W 2022 125WWendy-Jo Toyama, MBA CAE FASAE, has more than 25 years of association management experience, serving in numerous executive director and senior leadership roles for healthcare-focused associations. An active volunteer, Wendy is a member of the ASAE Research Foundation Research Committee, past chair for the ASAE Diversity + Inclusion Committee, and secretary for the National Coalition for Hospice and Palliative Care. She is well-known and sought out for her expertise, commitment, and drive to innovate positive change and growth in the association community.
